Who We Are

There is a particular kind of longing that does not announce itself loudly. It lives quietly in the pause between two thoughts, in the stillness after Fajr, in the ache that rises unexpectedly in the middle of an ordinary day. It is the soul's oldest instinct: the pull toward its Source, the yearning to be near to Allah. The Smiling Soul was built from that longing and for it.

How this began

My name is Ibtisam. In Arabic, it means a smile, not the wide, fleeting kind, but the quiet one. The kind that belongs to a heart that has found something worth holding onto or is still in the process of finding it.

I began writing because I needed to. Because there were things I was carrying that only made sense when I put them into words. Reflections on faith. On the Quran. On the slow, tender work of trying to draw near to Allah in the middle of an ordinary life. I wrote what I needed to read and slowly, quietly, others began to find their way to these words.

What started as one soul writing became something I had not anticipated: a gathering. A community of hearts asking the same quiet questions, walking the same road, finding in each other the reassurance that they are not walking alone.

The Smiling Soul is what that gathering has grown into.

What You’ll Find Here

Here you will find:

  • reflections rooted in faith, the Quran, and the sacred work of becoming. Words written not to impress but to reconnect, to return the heart to what it already knows but sometimes forgets.

  • A Quran journey shared openly: the insights, the questions, the moments where a single ayah opens something that had been quietly closed.

  • An annual Ramadan Reflection Series: thirty days, thirty letters written as companions through the most sacred season of the year.

  • Thoughts on books, on growth, on the ordinary moments of this life that carry, if we look closely enough, the weight of something extraordinary.

And woven through all of it, a community — souls who are seeking, finding each other, and finding in that a reminder that the road toward Allah is one that has always been walked together.

If you have ever felt that quiet longing and wondered whether anyone else feels it too, you are in the right place. Come in. Stay a while. You belong here.
